Darren & Bailey Conquer the Stroud Half Marathon, Raising Hundreds for Longfield!

Two EESI employees completed the Stroud Half Marathon in October to raise money for our charity of the year Longfield.

Darren Jewell, a fire alarm engineer who has worked at EESI for 10 years, and Bailey Hannis, a final-year electrical apprentice, both completed the half marathon in impressive times.

Bailey finished in just under 1 hour 45minutes, and Darren, who has been a member of Stroud Athletics for nearly 10 years completed it in 1 hour 26 minutes.

Between them they raised over £700, which has been match-funded by EESI and goes towards the funds we are collecting for Longfield to celebrate our 25^th year in business.

Longfield provides community-based hospice care for people with life limiting illnesses in Gloucestershire 365 days a year.

Darren has raised money for Longfield previously as it’s a charity close to his heart. He was diagnosed with cancer in his 20s and used many of the after-care services offered by Longfield (previously Cotswold Care Hospice) after his treatment.

Darren made a good recovery and has gone on to prove that cancer is no barrier to future health – after turning 40 Darren set himself the challenge of running a marathon a month for a year, and in fact completed 16 in total.

At EESI we announced Longfield as our charity of the year in August 2019 – the 25^th anniversary of the business – and we will be raising money in a number of ways for the charity until the end of July 2020, including some staff doing abseils and skydives.
